Sophia Kupse, director and lead mentor at MBH Training offers medical, health and social care professionals’ remediation in the form of a 1:1 mentoring programme, specifically designed for those facing fitness to practice or restoration hearings.

Clients who work with MBH Training need to understand what is meant by current impaired fitness to practice and be able to demonstrate that they are not impaired through reflection, insight, and remediation. Sophia is a highly experienced mentor and leads the 1:1 mentoring programme. She guides and supports individuals through the remediation process. This helps to ensure the person gains a proper understanding of what will lead to the best outcome for their patients and practice.

The eight-step mentoring programme can be covered over a period of 3 to 6 months. The programme delivered within three months is for those who require quicker results to meet regulation deadlines or for those who prefer a more paced programme, it can be spread over six months, the price is the same for either choice.

The programme starts with a pre-assessment and evaluation session to focus on the significant role of impairment, and to develop a personal plan to successfully help demonstrate the insight gained from remediation through reflection. Further sessions use bespoke exercises specifically targeted to support the agreed plan. Self-reflection is incorporated in each session, a key component of remediation.

As part of future planning, the regulator General Medical Council (GMC) and General Dental Council (GDC) will be looking for three key things:

  1. That you can demonstrate INSIGHT into the circumstances of your case.
  2. That you can REFLECT on who you may have harmed (individual, institution, profession) and how this has affected them
  3. That you have undertaken REMEDIATION to ensure the event does not happen again.

All these points will be covered in full throughout the course of the programme. The final two sessions include planning and preparation for the future. On completion of the programme Sophia will prepare an evaluation report with supporting evidence of your work to add to your remediation folder.
